Java, Borneo and Beach
Admire the wildlife of Borneo, culture and scenery of Java and end with an idyllic beach stay.
Indonesia, Java
Located in the heart of central Java with panoramic views of the eight surrounding volcanic peaks, this working coffee plantation has been converted into a stylish, traditionally Javanese, wellness retreat. The 27 villas spread out throughout lush gardens offering peace, tranquillity and a high level of space, privacy and comfort. The comfort of style and scenery create an incredibly relaxing and peaceful environment, and the new wellness concept provides guests with the opportunity to reinvigorate and remove the stresses and strains of home.
All of the buildings within the plantation are original to the plantation or are traditional buildings that have been moved in from elsewhere in Java, including the foyer which is a converted train station lobby. This combination of the open, spacious and wood-based design that Java is so traditionally famous for and all the necessary modern comforts and luxuries, mean that the villas enhance the laid back and comfortable nature of a stay here. All of the rooms are unique and tastefully furnished. The lead-in Plantation Villas are a decent size, while the larger Arum Villas provide a day bed and comfortable sitting area and generally better views of the surrounding hills, volcanoes and paddy fields. There is a range of two-bedroom Amber Villas that can accommodate two couples or a family and have a variety of configurations to suit both. Finally, there is also the Belle Vista, a collection of five villas that is available for a large group. Each villa has its own space and bathroom, and the view from the private garden and pool is superb.
The resort is now pushing its wellness concept and as a result offers a good range of healthy food, much of it grown within the plantation, and a full range of daily activities, including morning yoga sessions, guided runs and a complimentary daily 15-minute massage. The rooms are sold on a full board basis, including all of the scheduled daily activities and an afternoon tea. This means that a stay here is better value than it may first appear. Although a selection of wines is available with dinner, the wellness concept implies that alcohol is generally not on offer during your stay.
A real highlight of the plantation is the stunning scenery that it has to offer. The garden is lush and beautifully maintained, and the hillside location provides fantastic views of the eight nearby volcanic peaks. The working coffee plantation offers an exciting tour, and good coffee, while the large infinity pool is a great place to spend an afternoon with a book. While a stay at Mesastila is an excellent option for those looking for a genuine detox and health drive with a range of strenuous activities, it is also a perfect place to relax, unwind and recuperate. Highly recommended.
(Note - Mesastila was formerly known as the Losari Coffee Plantation)
Deluxe - This is our first really 'upmarket' category. It might be a beautiful tiny hotel with very limited facilities or a 5* resort hotel with all the trimmings; but any hotel in this category will be a well-run establishment with very comfortable rooms, a strong service ethos and excellent food.
